An apicoectomy (root end surgery) is a procedure where the endodontist will open the gum tissue near the tooth to see the underlying bone and remove inflamed tissue. A small filling is placed to seal the root end after cleaning. Few sutures will be placed.

Over period of months the bone heals around the end of the root.
